Some of the secrets of the animal kingdom were revealed to Sheffield Park Academy students last week, when Zoolab brought a selection of exotic and exciting creatures to the school.
Following a lesson on tropical rainforests, the Year 7, 8 and 9 students’ studies were brought to life thanks to a visit from the animal handling company, who brought in a collection of creatures including a giant African land snail, cockroach, millipede, gecko, scorpion and corn snake.
Students and staff had the opportunity to hold or stroke the animals, learning about their diet, habitat and other fascinating facts, including how giant African land snails survive by eating bones, whilst cockroaches can survive without their heads!
Commented teacher Miss Ruscoe, who organised the visit:
We were extremely lucky to have had a visit from Zoolab, which really helped to bring the students learning to life. Their excitement and enthusiasm made all of the planning worthwhile and the standard of questioning was excellent. I’m sure those involved will remember the visit for a long time. A huge ‘thank you’ to all involved.
