Last Wednesday, Sheffield Park Academy opened its doors to around three hundred Year 6 students and their families for a special in-person Open Evening.
During the event, parents and prospective students were able to gain invaluable insight into secondary school life at the academy through a range of engaging activities, workshops and demonstrations put on by departments across the school.
With all appropriate safety measures in place, the school was delighted to be able to provide a space for teachers and families to interact. Particular highlights were prospective students enjoying robot wars and cyber security challenges organised by the Computing department, a challenge to create an earthquake-proof building in the Geography department, as well as a range of fun and educational scientific experiments.
Families also heard from the school’s Principal, Roland Freeman, as well as students in Years 8 and 13 who confidently delivered speeches about life at the school. Giving students access to opportunities like this where they can express themselves on a public stage and give back to their school and local community is all part of the academy’s commitment to provide an Education with Character to its young people.
Roland Freeman, Headteacher at Sheffield Park Academy, said:
“We were delighted to be able to welcome local families to our academy for an in-person Open Evening. The event is one of the highlights of our year as it means a great deal to everyone at the academy to see so many members of our local community. During the evening, I was joined onstage by Dwayne, Junaid and Mozhda from Year 13, plus Nicole Rae and Zain from Year 8 who showed great leadership in the way they delivered speeches to our guests.
“I would like to thank everyone who attended - it was wonderful to hear so many kind words said about the school, our students and staff who all worked hard to deliver an engaging event.”
Anyone who is interested in visiting the academy but was unable to attend the Open Evening is invited to contact Assistant Principal Elizabeth Faulkner on 0114 2392661 or by email Elizabeth.Faulkner@sheffieldparkacademy.org.
