Sheffield Park Academy’s Storm Burgess and Sarah Szafraniec are celebrating after winning awards at the annual United Learning ‘Best in Everyone Awards,’ held on Friday 30th June.
The awards, which garner hundreds of nominations each year, were launched in 2012 to celebrate the outstanding achievements of secondary students and their teachers across schools group United Learning, of which Sheffield Park and Springs Academies are a part.
Held in Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, this year’s ceremony saw Storm and Sarah join over 50 winners, with Storm taking top spot in the Young Hero of the Year category (Years 7-9) and Sarah, Executive Director at Sheffield Park and Springs Academies, receiving School Leader Award.
A Year 7 student from Darnall, animal lover Storm has raised in excess of £10,000 for animal charities in just 18 months. Despite dealing with serious health problems in recent years, she hasn’t let that hinder her fundraising, which last year saw her receive the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s ‘Young Fundraiser of the Year Award’ at a special event held at the House of Lords.
Sarah’s goal is to ensure every child under her care achieves the very best they can – something which has earned her the praise of students and peers alike.
Presenting Storm and Sarah with their awards at the ceremony on 30th June was Chief Executive of United Learning, Jon Coles, who said:
“Each year, these awards recognise the remarkable achievements of students from across our Group and provide us with an opportunity to celebrate their talents, subject excellence and determination to succeed. Yet again, we had the difficult task of choosing winners from amongst a very impressive range of candidates nationally and I hope therefore that every award winner takes great pride in their success.
“The Best in Everyone Awards are also a time for us to show our appreciation for the hard work and commitment of staff across our schools and the crucial role they play in supporting and enabling students to achieve their very best. While this year’s awards celebrate several particularly outstanding contributions, I would like to thank all our teachers, support staff and governors who continue to make a difference in each of our schools.”
Craig Dillon, Executive Principal at Sheffield Park and Springs Academies added:
“These awards are richly deserved. Storm is an incredibly focused and determined pupil who has used that determination to give a voice to those that don’t have one, whilst Sarah’s dedication to her role, is exemplary. Very well done to both.”
