'Sold Out’ Performing Arts Show Attracts Praise at Sheffield Park Academy

~ Students across all year groups came together to perform songs and dances from well-loved musicals ~

Last month, Sheffield Park Academy held their annual performing arts show, ‘Mighty Real,’ in front of a live audience – so popular that both nights had sell-out crowds.

With Covid-19 restrictions and precautions in place, parents, students and staff were able to enjoy the incredibly talented youngsters performing songs and dances from the likes of Six the Musical, Hairspray, Grease as well as Matthew Bourne’s Romeo and Juliet.

The show was choreographed and stage managed by two of the school’s teachers, who worked hard to get the best out of their performers, guiding them through the range of dance disciplines reflected in the show, including Tap, Commercial, Rock’n’roll and Contemporary.  Teachers Mrs Booth, the Lead Practitioner of Teaching Pedagogy at the school, and Mrs Pleasance, the Head of Technologies and Vocational Coordinator proved that the show was in good hands.

A total of 80 students from all year groups were involved in the spectacular show, with students performing dances to a wide variety of chart-topping hits such as Tears, Dynamite, Big God and Always. Year 7 Alfie and Year 9 Grace left audiences amazed at their confidence during their stand-out solo performances.

The debut performance from the school’s ‘Great Big Dance Off’ group also impressed with their performance to the song Helium. The ‘Great Big Dance Off’ is a national competition open to all schools across England & Wales, which staff and students are gearing up to take part in later this year.

Sheffield Park Academy students were also joined for one song by 20 Year 6 students from local primary school, Pipworth Community Primary, who attend for six weekly rehearsal sessions and took to the stage performing a dance from the Trolls movie soundtrack.

Mrs Booth, choreographer of the show and a teacher at Sheffield Park Academy, said:

Our core values of ambition, knowledge and determination really came into play and shone through in all of our students throughout the weeks of rehearsals, perfecting their performances and honing their skills – the end result was amazing and I am extremely proud of all of them.

Mr Freeman, Principal at Sheffield Park Academy, said:

“It has been wonderful to see students across year groups come together to showcase their talents. The students’ have shown real determination and commitment to practising and perfecting their performances, which certainly paid off in the form of two ‘sold-out’ nights of music and dancing. I’m incredibly proud of what they have achieved.

“I’d also like to congratulate Mrs Booth and Mrs Pleasance for their hard work and dedication to putting on such a spectacular show for the school community to enjoy – it’s an incredible achievement and acts as a great example of the school’s wider commitment to delivering an Education with Character. In addition to their academic studies, we are always looking to provide students with the tools and experiences that will help them to become confident, ambitious and creative individuals both now and in the future.”
