Home Learning

Purpose:

The purpose of home learning at Sheffield Park Academy is to consolidate, improve and extend the learning that takes place in the classroom. Home learning supports the recall and retention of key knowledge, develops confidence and supports students to achieve to the best of their ability.

Support:

All colleagues work together to ensure students have every opportunity to access and complete the home learning. All students have access to lunch time clubs every week where they can access a computer and complete their home learning. All our home learning platforms can be accessed from mobile phones so students do not need a laptop or desktop computer in order to complete their home learning. If students are struggling with device access then they should speak to their form tutor or Head of Year.

KS3 Home Learning Expectations:

KS3 students must complete Sparx Reader and Sparx Maths every week.

If students complete more than 70% of each activity they will receive Achievement Points for their efforts. 70% earns them 1 Achievement Point, 85% earns them 2 Achievement Points and 100% earns them 3 Achievement Points.

If students do not complete at least 60% of their Sparx Reader or Sparx Maths each week, they will receive a sanction.

Additional home learning may be set in other subjects for students in Y7-9. Students do not receive sanctions for lack of completion in these subjects but can earn Achievement Points for completing work set, as above.

KS4 Home Learning Expectations:

KS4 students will be set home learning every week for each of their subjects (with the exception of Core PE). We use a couple of different online platforms with our KS4 students to ensure that they are being set work that is relevant and tailored to the specific courses they are studying.

This includes:

  • Sparx Maths
  • Language Nut
  • Seneca (for all other subjects)
  • Past GCSE papers or questions may also be set as home learning

Students must complete all home learning they are set every week.

If students complete more than 70% of each activity they will receive Achievement Points for their efforts. 70% earns them 1 Achievement Point, 85% earns them 2 Achievement Points and 100% earns them 3 Achievement Points.

If students do not complete at least 60% of any piece of home learning that is set, they will incur a sanction.
