Sheffield Park Academy is celebrating after one of its students picked up an award at United Learning’s national Best in Everyone Awards. The awards recognise the impressive achievements of United Learning’s students and staff across the country. They include awards for academic excellence, extracurricular achievements and service to school communities.
Having been nominated by her teachers for her natural talent, hard work and dedication to dance, Year 13 student, Silvera Owusu was given the Dance Award. In winning the award, she saw off strong competition from a field of excellent candidates from across United Learning.
Silvera was put forward for the award by her dance teacher who had been impressed by Silvera’s dancing talent and determination to improve. Silvera competes in a number of competitions most recently enjoying success in the Great Big Dance Off.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s awards ceremony took place virtually rather than as part of a live event. Silvera’s award was therefore announced via a special video on Twitter, along with a personal message of congratulations from her dance teacher.
Congratulating Silvera, Laura Booth, Performing Arts teacher at Sheffield Park Academy said:
“Silvera is an inspirational dancer. She gives spectacular performances and choreographs creative and imaginative dances. She is a role model to all dancers in our academy and it has been a privilege to watch her perform.”
Silvera said:
"I am so overwhelmingly grateful for every opportunity and experience Sheffield Park has given me to express and showcase my dancing and help me grow as a performer."
