L3 BTEC IT gives students an understanding of how the world of IT works, and the units we study have been carefully chosen to complement both student’s interests, and what universities and employers are looking for. In addition the course allows students to develop a range of skills, such as analysis and evaluation, which are transferable to any walk of life.

The course is designed with some vocational elements and students will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain a broad understanding of IT across a number of sectors
  • To study some areas of IT in greater depth depending on interest Develop skills, knowledge and understanding in IT to help in the real world
  • Have opportunities to apply learning in some practical ways Allows access to higher education – including most red brick universities
  • Develop personal learning and thinking skills which are valued by higher education establishments and business Gain confidence through independent learning skills.

Assessment: 

Studying the Extended Certificate, you will be assessed on the following modules:

  • Unit 1: Information Technology Systems (Exam assessed)
  • Unit 2: Creating Systems to Manage Information (assessment)
  • Unit 3: Using Social Media in Business (course work)
  • Unit 6: Website Development (coursework)

Studying the Diploma, in addition to the units above, you will also complete:

  • Unit 4: Programming (coursework)
  • Unit 5: Data Modelling (coursework)
  • Unit 9: IT Project Management (coursework)
  • Unit 11:Cyber Security and Incident Management (assessment)

Studying the Extended Diploma, in addition to the units above, you will also complete:

  • Unit 7: Mobile Apps Development (coursework)
  • Unit 12:IT Technical Support and Management (coursework)
  • Unit 14: IT Service Delivery (coursework)
  • Unit 17:Digital 2D and 3D Graphics (coursework)
  • Unit 18: Digital Animation and Effects (coursework)
