About:
Physics is an exciting, demanding subject that opens routes to many university courses and rewarding careers. It gives a better understanding of the world and universe around us, and our everyday interactions with them.
Studying A-level OCR Physics (A) at Sheffield Park Academy, you will cover the following in year 1:
- Module 1: Development of practical skills in physics
- Module 2: Foundations in physics
- Module 3: Forces and motion
- Module 4: Electrons, waves and photons
In year 2 you will study:
- Module 5: Newtonian world and astrophysics
- Module 6: Particles and medical physics
Sheffield Park Academy is an excellent place to study Physics. You will be taught by experienced, specialist staff, and regularly do engaging practicals to help improve your understanding. You will study and widely respected, content-led A-level course that is well sought after by universities and employers. You will have a minimum of 5 hours teaching per week, with regular out of classroom work set. You will be formally assessed each half term, and given bespoke feedback to help develop your understanding.
Assessment:
Physics is a fully exam-assessed course. You will be tested on your understanding of forces, motion and astrophysics in paper 1, and electronics, waves and particles in paper 2, there is also a synoptic unified assessment. Physics is a practical subject, and you will complete twelve assessed practicals throughout the course, as well as other non-assessed practicals to give you a good grounding in technical laboratory skills. The twelve assessed practicals will give a ‘practical endorsement’ to your qualification.
