Entry Requirements:
Students will need to have obtained at least 5 Grade 5s or above, including English and Maths. Plus, subject specific criteria for each intended subject at A Level:
At least a Grade 6 in English at GCSE.
At least a Grade 6 in Maths at GCSE.
About:
All the following must be an integral part of the study of each topic area:
- psychological theories, perspectives and methods
- the design of the research used to obtain the data under consideration, including its strengths and limitations.
Attention must be given to drawing out the links between topic areas studied.
Core topics
Students must study the following core content:
- Psychological theories of social influence
- Psychological theories of memory
- Psychological theories of attachment
- Psychological theories of psychopathology
- Key approaches in psychology
- Biopsychology
- Research methods in psychology
- Key issues and debates in psychology
Students are expected to understand, apply and evaluate the information within these topics. These topics are to be interpreted broadly as threads running through many areas of psychological life and are therefore interleaved with one another across the course, rather than being discrete units of study.
In addition, students will study three optional topics: Gender, Stress and Forensic Psychology.
Assessment
Assessment is in the form of three two-hour written examinations.
